Muscles seriously achy after an intense yoga class? Rub-a-dub-dub, get in the tub. A bath is a great way to relieve stress, calm your mind and soothe aches and pains. Try this Ayurvedic-inspired bathing ritual and you’ll see how easy and affordable it is to turn bath time into a mini-spa getaway.
Splish splash, its time for a bath:
Step 1: Brush
Before you hop in the tub, use a dry brush all over your body. Dry brushing helps exfoliate the surface layer of the skin while also improving circulation, giving skin a youthful, glowing appearance. Try the Earth Therapeutics Tampico Vegetable Fiber Brush made with fibers from the agave plant. Start at the feet and brush in long upward strokes towards the hips, then move to the fingertips and brush up towards the shoulders. Brush in a circular motion on the torso and over the joints.
Step 2: Soak
Epsom salts are an affordable way to revitalize tired, achy muscles fast. Mix 1-2 cups Epsom salts into your bath water and add your favorite essential oil like lavender or rose or get a pre-mixed package like Dr. Teal’s Lavender Epsom Salt Solution. Sit back, relax and soak for 15-20 minutes.
Step 3: Rub
After your soak, give yourself a 5-minute massage while nourishing your skin with body oil. Try Aura Cacia Sweet Almond Oil, which has a light, pleasant scent. Use long upward strokes on the arms and legs and circular motions for the torso, start at the toes and work your way up.
Other ways to keep the spa vibe going: Light candles and dim the bathroom lights while you soak, dry off with a fresh towel (bonus points if it’s still warm), slip into your favorite pajamas and curl up with a good book.
