In classes, it’s important to recognize the value of creating a space where yogis can connect to the present moment as we are, as fully as we can in the environment we’re in. Yoga equals union equals relationship.

Relationship isn’t just about connecting to those you love, or like, or want to love or like, but compassionately to all, even the folks you don’t want anything from, the people you don’t particularly like, really all beings, beings you’ll never meet.

Some of the powerful things about sharing yoga practice are the willingness, the courage and the kindness to be that vulnerable with yourself with another self with how we are. Not just the active ways we present ourselves, but also the receptive ways. When I was younger I remember thinking how nice it would be to be in a room with someone I loved and who loved me and not feel the need to say or do anything, and be able to just knowingly sit with that person.
