Move from abundance. When taking or particularly teaching yoga, work from the assumption that there is plenty of love, plenty of time, plenty of money, plenty of space. New York is a tricky town, and it's a challenge to remember that there's something for everyone while we're hustling to class. If you can't feel liberated from this anxiety in a yoga class, then where can you?

Jack Kornfield wrote that, "The greatest and simplest power of a teacher is the environment of their own freedom and joy." This is my motto when training teachers and what I aspire to when teaching. I can't say I'm there every day, but thankfully, the students are exceptional teachers, too.

The music we chant in class, the correct alignment, the liberation of teaching workshops on the road and the freedom of having a home studio – they all exist to expand that liberation and joy.
